A little about me.
I’m a board-certified internal medicine physician, educator and speaker, certified physician coach, best-selling author, and founder of the Conscious Physician Method. I immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 14 and now reside in sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico with my gorgeous husband, two amazing kiddos, our two dogs, self domesticated field mouse and new Eshghie bunny!
Dr. Lida Fatemi, DO, MPH is a hospice and palliative care physician, best-selling author of The Conscious Physician Method: Conscious Life Practices & Psychedelics, psychedelic educator, and legislative advisor to the State of New Mexico for the Medical Psilocybin Act and guide to the state of Texas for a certification path for facilitators.
She is the founder of The Conscious Physician Method, a pioneering approach to healing burnout and trauma through conscious life practices and psychedelic integration. An award-winning clinician and national speaker, Dr. Fatemi transforms trauma into wisdom and helps physician mothers and healthcare leaders return to joy, purpose, and embodied leadership.
Her work has been featured on NBC, ABC, the upcoming documentary Journeys, and her podcast The Conscious Physician: Medicine & Psychedelics. She is also the founder of the Conscious Physicians: Psychedelics Academy (CPPA), where she trains healthcare professionals in ancient and innovative methods of healing—guiding them to transform trauma into self-love and service to all.
I hold a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from Emory University. I currently serve as an Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and as a legislative advisor to the State of New Mexico and guide to the state of Texas in developing educational and certification pathways for psychedelic facilitators.
I come from a lineage of healers, physicians, and entrepreneurs from Iran, with Indigenous Zoroastrian roots from ancient Persia. This ancestral wisdom of light and balance deeply informs my work. My purpose is to empower those in states of trauma to reconnect with their inner light through conscious life practices, plants, and fungi.
As the founder of the Conscious Physicians: Psychedelics Academy (CPPA), my mission is to guide the next generation of physicians and facilitators in restoring medicine as a sacred path of healing, self-love, and service to all.

Lived Experience + Professional Expertise
Trauma can drive us toward extraordinary achievements, yet our ability to sustain such intensity is finite.
I lived under the terrorist regime of Iran for the first 14 years of my life, and I lived in an active war for my first 8 years. These experiences left me clinging to memories and beliefs that hindered my growth into adulthood, a realization that would only dawn on me decades later.
Upon arriving in the U.S., I relished the freedom to pursue education without fear for my life or female oppression. In 2003, I received my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University, with an interest in neuroplasticity. Three years later, I received my Masters at the Rollins School of Public Health, specializing in Global Health and Infectious Disease. In 2011, I received my Doctor of Osteopathy from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. One year later, I relocated from Georgia to New Mexico to finish my residency in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico. Throughout my residency, I achieved remarkable success, receiving Resident of the Year Award for three consecutive years, a distinction never before awarded in my program.
By all measures, I was thriving; yet despite my outward success, a war was brewing inside me. As my career progressed, I became increasingly aware of the systemic flaws within the medical field. Physician burnout was rampant across the nation, and I found myself quickly spiraling too.
They say that the healer’s gift is in her own wound, and they’re right.
My journey reached a breaking point as I grappled with unresolved trauma from my childhood in war-torn Iran, the challenges of motherhood, and the toll of medical practice. As my mental health declined, my struggled drove me into understanding the causes and interventions for trauma, severe depression and anxiety, addiction, burnout, and compassion fatigue. The more I searched, the clearer it became that conventional medicine couldn't provide the answers I sought, prompting me to explore alternative paths. Discovering psychedelic medicine, I began microdosing psilocybin and practicing meditation. Though initially counterintuitive amidst my Western training and the chaos surrounding me, these daily practices became pivotal in my mental health recovery—and they began to evolve into something I never could have imagined.
As I addressed the lingering trauma from my childhood in Iran, I also reconnected with my Persian roots—a culture deeply influenced by psychedelics and plant medicine. In what felt like a moment of losing my mind, I discovered I was actually finding it, along with my body, soul, and spirit. I was coming home to myself. From this journey emerged the Conscious Physician Method—a unique fusion of my signature Conscious Life Practices and Psilocybin coaching.
My personal and professional journey led to the realization that healing yourself is deeply connected to healing others.
No longer suffering from burnout or haunted by trauma, I became a trailblazer in the psychedelic movement and medical field, dedicating over a decade to educating others on the symbiosis of psychedelics and medicine well before its recent resurgence. As my coaching practice blossomed, I continued working in palliative and hospice medicine in New Mexico, with an emphasis on educating the community on self-care and the proper use of psychedelics. I began implementing psychedelic medicine in end-of-life care and witnessed immense breakthroughs in my patients, who deserved to die with dignity.
Finally, in late 2023, I left my position in hospice care and as a professor at the University of New Mexico to fully focus on my offerings as the Conscious Physician, detailed throughout this site.
Now, I educate others and share my transformative practices with a global audience through my books, programs, podcasts, and more. I support physicians, therapists, healthcare professionals, and executives who wish to heal, learn, and grow using integrative modalities, and it brings me joy every day.
